How MAAC is set-up:
-
MAAC is a non-profit organization established in
1996.
-
MAAC is a collaboration of 8 agencies that work together
to provide placement and wrap around support to kids in the higher
end of the Level of Care system (3-6).
-
The participating member agencies are: CHRIS Kids,
Creative Community Services (CCS), Elks Aidmore, GA Baptist Children's
Home and Family Ministries, The Bridge and Twin Cedars Youth Services. The participating affiliate member agencies are: Devereux and Hillside.
-
It was "born" because the leaders of the founding
agencies (6 at the time) believed they could offset the impact of
managed care by pooling their resources to create a network.
-
The MAAC Board of Directors is made up of the Executive
Directors or designee of all of the participating agencies.
-
In addition, there is a clinical team that has one
member from each agency that meets weekly (2 times by phone and 2
in person each month).
-
The Board and the clinical team work for MAAC on
a voluntary basis and do this in addition to their regular jobs.
-
We work with kids ages 3-21 but the majority of our
kids are ages 16-20.
-
We receive our referrals from the Provider Relations
Unit, accept referrals from all over the State of Georgia, and have
contracts with DHR and DJJ.
- The State pays MAAC at a capitated rate. That means we get the same
amount of money for working with each child. It's up to us to use that
money wisely.
-
Some of the things we are able to do, in addition
to residential services include: respite, behavior aid support, specialized
therapies, specific incentive contracts with kids, advocacy and treatment
planning support. We strive to be individualized and creative.
-
MAAC respects the unique identity of each agency
to do what they do best and we share resources with each other for
the benefit of our kids. For example, one of our kids may live in
a CHRIS Kids group home or an Outdoor Therapeutic Program but go to
respite at CCS on a regular basis.
-
We help case managers because once we accept kids,
they generally stay a part of MAAC until they don't need us anymore.
A child may move within the MAAC network, but MAAC works with case
managers so that can be done in a proactive, planned way.
-
We help parents and guardians because we believe
they are a critical part of the healing process and we ask them for
input and help along the way.
-
We believe strongly that kids should be served in
the lowest level of care possible and that every child can succeed--
it just takes some a little more help than others.
-
We help kids because we listen to what they need,
from their point of view, as well as that of the adults in their life.
We care about what happens. We have known some of our kids for 5 or
more years and have watched them make hard-earned progress.
